New Learning Spaces – Illawarra Christian School
← View all projectsIt was good to be able to come up with ideas with staff and then get a drawing back really quickly to show us how that idea worked - its was a lot cheaper this way than actually getting walls built and then knocking them down if they proved to be in the wrong place.
Scope
Increasing enrollment demanded additional classrooms and upgraded facilities on a challenging sloping site within a bushfire zone, requiring innovative solutions for accessibility and regulatory compliance.
Through careful material selection and design integration, the new additions seamlessly connect with the existing hall while meeting stringent bushfire regulations. Universal accessibility was achieved through strategic lift placement and level transitions, creating a revitalized learning environment that addresses both educational needs and challenging site constraints.
Multi-level additions feature three ground-floor classrooms, teacher facilities, toilet blocks, plus upper-level stage, additional classrooms, and staff room, connected by new lift access and weather-protected circulation. The result provides expanded capacity while maintaining compliance with complex legislative requirements.
